Lorena Chavez, Board ClerkTop of Page
||Lorena Chavez is a proud native of the East Side of San Jose, and a graduate of Yerba Buena High School. She attended UC Davis and received two BA’s, International Relations and Sociology. She also received her Master’s Degree in Education. In addition, she has received her teaching credential and administrative credential.
Lorena has been an educator for over a decade. She began her career in 2008 when she became a math teacher at Lee Mathson Middle School in Alum Rock Union School District. In just her second year as a teacher, Lorena started the AVID Program at her school, which helped cultivate a college and career readiness culture.
Lorena was impacted by the achievement gap herself as a student. She recognized from first-hand experience that all students deserve to access the same great opportunities as their more privileged peers, and became determined to do her part to make sure every child can receive an excellent education. Many of Lorena’s students were a product of the achievement gap, and she worked diligently to help them realize their potential and make strong academic gains. She also had the opportunity to lead teachers in the East Side as a principal, in working towards closing the achievement gap.
As a mother raising two children in the San Jose community, Lorena is determined to do whatever it takes to ensure that all students in the East Side have access to a world-class education.
Lorena supports the district's commitment to excellence, achieving equity, diversity, and inclusiveness. She is passionate about student success and can be contacted anytime at ChavezL@esuhsd.org.
