Independent Study Program (ISP)

Students meet with a designated teacher for one hour per week.  Credits are earned through the completion of online courses.

Attendance records are based on a student's work within the terms and conditions of his or her written course agreement and not on traditional "seat-time."

Daily attendance tracking is required as measured by work completion.

How does it work?

Students are assigned online courses based on the required coursework needed to earn a high school diploma. Assigned work is completed by the student at home (asynchronously) and during the scheduled time with their assigned teacher of record.  Students meet for synchronous instruction (via video conferencing, in-person, or telephone) with their designated ISP teacher for one hour per week to complete work and receive instructional support.  Online courses are evaluated by the student’s teacher of record and the student is issued credit based on successful completion and mastery of objectives within the course contract. All core coursework is UC/CSU A-G aligned.

How does my student request Independent Study (ISP)?

Please schedule a meeting with the student’s school counselor where more detailed information about ISP will be shared including the student’s rights regarding enrolling, disenrolling, and re-enrolling. The school counselor will submit an enrollment request on behalf of the student.  Placement in ISP is based on available space in the program.
