Adult education in California has over 1.2 million students who take classes through the public school system.Nearly 75 percent of adult education students enroll in the program areas of English as a second language, citizenship preparation, basic literacy, high school diploma, and vocational education.Through these programs, California offers learners a wide range of knowledge and skills necessary for a competitive economy and a better quality of life as citizens, workers, parents, family and community members. 

The East Side Adult Education Program offers classes to adults age 18 and older.  Students can attain many different goals, including:

  • Earn a high school diploma
  • Earn a general education diploma (GED)
  • Learn about jobs
  • Learn to speak English
  • Learn how to become a U.S. citizen
