The Philanthropic Ventures Foundation is once again soliciting applications from teachers to come up with new ideas for after school programs for 2009-10. Grants up to $2,500 are available to cover costs of equipment, teacher time, and refreshments. The only deadline for these grants is when the money runs out. First come, first served. Recruiting East Side U.S. History Teachers for TAH Grant Control Group! So you can't participate in the Year I Teaching American History Cohort but are your interested in being on the Control Group? Krause Center for Innovation---Milpitas Unified School District Milpitas Unified School District and the Krause Center for Innovation at Foothill College are offering a Educational Technology Certificate Program to certificated and classified staff members. The two-year certificate program consists of three online classes and twelve face-to-face classes taught in Milpitas Unified School District. The series of classes, known as Essential Productivity, will help you develop proficiency with the PC computer, Microsoft Office software, Web-based technologies such as blogs and wikis, integrating technology into the classroom, the management of technology in the classroom, and child cybersafety.
Consider the following benefits of this opportunity: * Earn 12 quarter units (8 semester units) which can be used for salary advancement. (Note: Must follow proper ES contract procedures to apply for credits towards salary advancement! See Appendix A of our Contract---page 109) * Total cost is $402, including Foothill registration and units. This is FAR CHEAPER than UC or CSU continuing education costs. * Classes are offered in MUSD and online (summer quarters) which is much more convenient than having to travel to Foothill College. * Classes are spread out over two years, so the time commitment is not as demanding as UC or CSU courses. * Participants will use MUSD equipment and resources that are immediately applicable in Milpitas Unified classrooms. * Beginning technology users will be able to work at a slow, relaxed pace, while more advanced learners can delve deeper and engage in self-directed learning. * Classes are taught by MUSD staff who understand MUSD practices, policies, and student populations. * Your students will benefit from your increased proficiency in the use of educational technology. Learn to become more proficient in a collection of software programs known as the Office Suite. These courses are held in a PC lab. A textbook including an instructional CD is available for sale in the IAC campus bookstore for $18.50 per course. Courses are designed to build skills for Microsoft Certification (Optional). School Loop Grade Book Reminders! Note: Beginning Fall semester 2009, some functions on School Loop will not work if you are still using OS9 or Windows 98! Also, below is a reminder that the School Loop grade book can be easily backed up into Excel by following these steps. 1, Click on the grade book, 2, Next find download grade book icon (next to add item) 3, Finally click on download grade book. This will create and excel file of the teachers current grade book.
